Acero Academy

Academy: Close protection and executive protection training courses in Toronto

Close protection · VIP protection · Professional standards

Raising the standard of close protection through training that holds up in the field

Why the Academy

One standard
for the industry

Close protection has no single standard. Two operators with the same title can bring very different skills to the same detail. Acero Academy exists to close that gap with one curriculum, taught hands-on and assessed against clear competencies, so clients know exactly what a trained protection professional brings.

[01]Standardized
One curriculum and one set of competencies, so every graduate works to the same baseline.
[02]Hands-on
Most of the time is spent on the ground, in vehicles and in live scenarios, not in a classroom.
[03]Assessed
Every module ends in a practical assessment. Attendance alone does not earn a pass.
[04]Operational
Built from how protection details actually run, from advance work to debrief.

Curriculum

Six modules, one standard

[01]

Close Protection Foundations

The role, the mindset and the rules every protection professional works within.

  • Role and responsibilities of the protection officer
  • Legal and ethical framework
  • Situational awareness and threat recognition
  • Working with principals, families and staff
[02]

Physical Skills

Hands-on drills that build the reflexes a detail depends on.

  • Body cover and escort formations
  • Evacuation and extraction drills
  • Restraint, control and de-escalation
  • Emergency first response under pressure
[03]

Operational Driving

Driving as a protective skill, not just transport.

  • Defensive and evasive driving
  • Convoy and motorcade procedures
  • Route planning and alternate routes
  • Embus, debus and vehicle anti-ambush drills
[04]

Risk Assessment

How to see a threat before it arrives, and how to write it down so the team can act on it.

  • Threat and vulnerability analysis
  • Venue, residence and route surveys
  • Advance work and reconnaissance
  • Writing the risk assessment and contingency plans
[05]

VIP & Executive Protection

Protection that fits the principal’s life, business and reputation.

  • Protocol, etiquette and discretion
  • Residence and family protection
  • Travel, events and public appearances
  • Low-profile and high-profile postures
[06]

Communications & Command

Keeping a detail coordinated when plans change.

  • Radio procedure and brevity codes
  • Briefings, handovers and debriefs
  • Incident reporting
  • Decision-making and team leadership

Groups · Pairs · Alone

Trained for every
size of detail

Groups

Working in a team

Formations, roles and handovers across a full protection detail, with the team leader, personal protection officer, advance and driver working as one.

Pairs

Working in pairs

Two-person coverage, cross-cover and partner protocols, so each officer always knows where the other is and what they are watching.

Alone

Working alone

Solo protection without backup: low-profile posture, self-reliance and fast decisions when there is no one to hand over to.
